Give your artist a cozy, creative afternoon, and give yourself two hours! For the first three Wednesdays in November, children ages 7 and up will explore a brand new medium each week with artist Margaret Mackie. Let us make the mess here, so they can experiment freely while creating artwork you'll be proud to display at home. No experience needed, just a willingness to try.
November 4: Wet Felted Geodes
Students will use soft, colorful wool, soap, and water to create their own sparkling geodes. Layer by layer, they'll build a rocky outside shell and a bright crystal center, then cut them open for the big reveal!
November 11: The Art of Paper Collage
Paper collage is one of those classes that students just love, and once you try it, you'll understand why! There's real joy in tearing, cutting, arranging, and rearranging until a picture comes together. Using a collection of hand-painted and beautiful handmade papers sourced from around the world, students will create stunning artwork rich with texture and depth. There are no mistakes in collage, only new ideas, which makes it the perfect place for kids to build confidence and trust their own creative choices.
November 18: Watercolor Winterscapes
Discover the magic of painting a snowy winter landscape! Students will learn watercolor basics, practicing washes and blending to create a soft, wintry sky, then explore how to use shadows and shading to give their scene depth and dimension. To finish, they'll add a touch of mixed media, collaging a birch tree onto the scene for a beautiful layer of texture.
